The Department of Telecommunication (DoT), Nagaland, NE LSA conducted an Awareness Programme on “Telecom Cyber Security, EMF Radiation Myths & DoT’s initiatives on Citizen Centric Services at CIHSR, Chumoukedima on January 30.
While on the other hand, the Department of Telecommunication (DoT), Nagaland, NE LSA has also conducted an Awareness Programme on “Telecom Cyber Security, EMF Radiation Myths & DoT’s initiatives on Citizen Centric Services at CIHSR, Chumoukedima on January 30. The event was attended by about 300 students, faculty members & other staffs, aimed at educating people about the prevalent modus operandi of cyber frauds in the modern internet era, EMF radiation myths and various Citizen Centric initiatives being taken by DoT in this regard.
The program focused on raising awareness about the various tactics done by cybercriminals through mobile phones, emails, or laptops, and further provided valuable insights into safeguarding against such threats. During the session, attendees were enlightened on the common techniques used by fraudsters, including phishing, identity theft, malware attacks, and social engineering scams.
The Department of Technology (DoT) further informed attendees about the Sanchar Saathi portal, a citizen-centric initiative by the Department of Telecommunications aimed at empowering mobile subscribers and enhancing their security awareness.
During his address, DDG Nagaland, DoT briefed about the status and progress of Telecom Services in Nagaland and emphasised the need of awareness for cyber frauds and various citizen centric initiatives of DoT which empower them as proactive measures. Further ADET, DoT Nagaland gave the detail presentations on Cyber frauds, EMF Radiation Myths & DoT’s initiatives on Citizen Centric Services. On this occasion, Medical Superintendent, CIHSR and Principal, NERMPI also expressed their views on these topics.

Sanchar Saathi serves as a comprehensive platform to educate and empower citizens regarding various aspects of mobile communication and government initiatives. The portal comprises several modules designed to cater to the diverse needs of mobile users like for Report Suspected Fraud & Spam communications, to Know number Mobile Connections in their name (TAFCOP), reporting for Block their Lost/ Stolen Mobile, Reporting Fraud International Calls etc listed below:
CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register): CEIR module facilitates tracing of the lost/stolen mobile devices. This also facilitates blocking of lost/stolen mobile devices in network of all telecom operators. As per latest data, a total of 923 mobile phones has been successfully blocked, 668 mobile phones traced and a total of 119 mobile got recovered through the CEIR platform in Nagaland.
TAFCOP: TAFCOP module facilitates a mobile subscriber to check the number of mobile connections taken in his/her name. It also facilitates to report the mobile connection(s) which are either not required or not taken by the subscriber.
Report Suspected Fraud Communications (CHAKSU): Chakshu facilitates citizens to report the suspected or unsolicited communications received through call, SMS or WhatsApp which are intended for cyber-crime.

The program also emphasized the importance of reporting cybercrimes promptly. Attendees were also informed about the National Cyber Crime Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in) and 1930 helpline number, where incidents of cybercrimes can be reported securely.
The EMR awareness program was also conducted which was aimed to address public concerns about cell phone tower radiation. Attendees were briefed about common myths and misconceptions surrounding electromagnetic radiation (EMR). The TARANG SANCHAR portal was introduced as a resource for citizens to access information on mobile tower radiation and to file complaints if they have any concerns regarding EMR.
Also, four Sanchar Mitra from CIHSR also participated in the event. The Sanchar Mitra is a volunteer ship scheme as a DoT initiative for spreading awareness amongst public. They were also felicitated with token of appreciation.
