A layman’s concern for Manipur

Kohima: Violence is a sickness, a disease that does not know who is who and consumes all

BY | Thursday, 20 July, 2023

Dear all fellowmen in general and leaders of the country in particular, about what is happening in Manipur today, despite of whatever was the reason it all started, can we for now, with the least sense of human intelligence not argue about;

whether I live in a hill or you in a valley,

what I eat and what you eat,

about which god I pray to and to which god you do,

or which party I voted for and to which party you did,

but rather come together to lend hands to let Manipuris wake up to a morning without the sound of gunfire, without cries of children and women, without the news of rape and burnings. Without VIOLENCE like yesteryears. Because violence is a sickness, it is a disease that does not know who is who. It consumes both sides. NEITHER WINS.

And to all the respected leaders, lawmakers and boastful giants of politics, stop your egoistic natural instinct of pointing fingers at each other. Because at the end of the day, I, as a common man, when I stand in the queue to cast my vote, none of your boring accusations and blaming will have any slightest ounce of impact in my choice to which party or whom I should vote but rather, your true one action and good example surely will. So, instead be brave enough to come together with one common intention, CONTAIN THE FIRE.

And the world is watching. Do not hypocritically cry back in desperate, saying that the issue today is just an internal matter of Manipur or India when a neighbour comes and “ring the doorbell” trying to halt the fight in your house, when someone voices out on behalf of the aggrieved. Aren’t we taught to do this under the ambit of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005? Can’t this relate to Manipur today? (Correct me if I’m wrong).

And yes, I might be tagged as another mere keyboard warrior whose frustration and concern will go unbothered, die and fade away at the end of this article, but dear leaders, what difference would you make if I still wake up tomorrow to same sad and disturbing news.

May Manipur be healed.
