A true regionalist who desired for equality for all Nagas: Former Home Minister Thenucho Tunyi on lt Noke Wangnao

Kohima: Tunyi states lt Wangnao was a genuine person with deep sense of love and concern for Naga people

Former Home Minister of Nagaland Thenucho Tunyi hailed late Noke Wangnao as a ‘true Regionalist at heart’ who firmly believed in Naga Unity and desired for equality for all Naga people.

Late Noke Wangnoa, the ten times MLA of 43 Tapi A/C under Mon district and Advisor of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland passed away on 28 August 2023.

Tunyi, in his condolence message expressed sorrow and stated Lt Wangnao, whom he had been associated with for over 40 years, would be remembered as “an elder Statesman and a towering personality in Naga Politics.” The veteran politician said that Lt Wangnao was a man of few words who wore his heart on his sleeve and seldom cowered under pressure.

Thenucho Tunyi stated his tribute: “A true Regionalist at heart, Noke firmly believed in Naga Unity and worked towards the goal of bringing all Naga ancestral lands under one cohesive Administrative umbrella. Noke’s desire for equality among all the Naga people made him rise above party politics and he was against the idea of division. This deeply rooted political ideology based on Naga Unity, made him live his life above petty conflicts and he was amiable to all sections of the society. His long standing leadership was a testament of Noke’s ability to connect with the masses.”

The former Speaker of NLA further stated that Lt Wangnao was “a genuine person with a deep sense of love and concern for the Naga people.”

In his death, we have lost an honourable man and a seasoned politician, Thenucho Tunyi added.
