The Aam Aadmi Party Nagaland has on Tuesday declared that it has decided not to field any official candidates in the 2023 Assembly election in the state, stating that the party did not want to indulge in money politics.
Asu Keyho, the state’s AAP president, said in a statement that the decision had been taken in consultation with the party’s Northeast in-charge Rajesh Sharma.
Keyho added “over dozen aspirants seeking party ticket” however, AAP could not find the candidates it wanted to field in the elections scheduled for 27 February.
AAP Nagaland formed on 25 January 2022.
On Sunday, Sharma had told reporters, “… the total politics of Nagaland is a huge game of money and Aam Admi Party never encourage such kind of politics.” He then said that the party was willing to give tickets to youths and women from the state who want change and development.
Keyho, in the press release, stated that AAP will continue its membership enrolment drive in the state in preparation for elections in the near future and invited like-minded people to join the party.
