Abu Metha visits SPUNER, thanks unit for service to citizens of NER

New Delhi: Metha suggests need to introduce a Cyber Crime Cell to protect NE people from cyber scams, fraud schemes

Advisor to Chief Minister, Abu Metha visited the Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER) under Delhi Police on Wednesday. DIPR informed that during the visit, Metha met SPUNER Chief and Joint Police Commissioner P. N. Khrimey, IPS and interacted with the SPUNER team.

Metha appreciated the role and contributions of the SPUNER team in the National Capital Region (NCR) who are doing yeomen service to the citizens of the northeastern region day and night. He observed that ever since the establishment of SPUNER, the people belonging to the North East and staying in the NCR have been positively assisted under all circumstances especially during emergencies.

The Nagaland delegation highlighted the need for SPUNER to be empowered with the authority to issue NOCs on occasions of non-criminal related deaths as many families face inconveniences during such situations. Metha also felt that the infrastructure and Human Resource capacity has to be strengthened and enhanced as the population of the north eastern people in the NCR continues to increase while suggesting the need to introduce a Cyber Crime Cell as many citizens are being targeted through cyber scams, fraud schemes, cheating and forgery, etc.

Metha stated that every citizen of the NE must have a sense of belonging in the national capital as Delhi belongs to every citizen of the country. With a comfortable and secure sense of belonging, our people will be able to contribute towards the nation building process in a greater manner he said, adding that already the people of the region are making significant contributions in India’s rise in the international arena. Sport is an area where the North East have emerged as the talent bank of the Country, and similarly, we have the capacity and calibre to enhance our contributions in all sectors, Metha stated.

Metha assured the fullest cooperation to ensure that SPUNER’s effectiveness continues to improve, and we need to make collective efforts to address the challenges faced by SPUNER.

The advisor to CM was accompanied by Joint Resident Commissioner, Wennyie Konyak, State Nodal Officer (Medical), Dr. Hentok Phom and PRO New Delhi, Koulie Mere.
