The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said on Monday that it is working with Russian authorities for the early discharge of Indian nationals who are working for the Russian army. In a press release, MEA stated that the Indian Embassy in Moscow is committed to every such case brought to its attention.
It also said that in this regard, the Embassy has been strongly taking each case with the Russian authorities and likewise the Ministry has also been taking the matter with the Russian Embassy in New Delhi. Several Indians have already been discharged as a result, MEA said.
The Hindu had in a report said that an Indian worker from Gujarat was killed in a Ukrainian air strike on 21st February 2024 in the border of Russia and Ukraine. The report also alleged that a month back, the deceased’s father has written to the Indian consulate, through an agent, appealing that his son be brought back to India.
Recently, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that the Ministry is aware that “a few Indian nationals have signed up for support jobs with the Russian army.” Responding to media queries, Jaiswal also informed that the matter for early discharge is being taken up with relevant Russian authorities.
“We urge all Indian nationals to exercise due caution and stay away from this conflict,” the Ministry cautioned.
