The Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) St. Francis de Sales (SFS) Parish Kohima Town observed its 45th Youth Day on Sunday at Savio Hall, SFS Parish Kohima Town. The new executives of ACYA SFS took over for the term 2026-27.

Speaking on the occasion, Keneilhounyü Daniel, former president of the youth association, highlighted Pope Leo XIV’s announced themes for World Peace Day and World Mission Sunday in 2026.

The World Peace Day, observed on January 1, has the theme “Peace be with you all: Towards an ‘unarmed and disarming’ peace,” calling for rejecting violence and embracing an authentic peace built on love, justice, meekness and evangelical humility.

The World Mission Sunday on October 18 will mark its 100th anniversary this year with the theme “One in Christ, united in mission,” emphasizing that peace is a universal call for everyone.

Daniel urged the new team to align their activities with the Pope’s vision and objectives, particularly in promoting peace and mission.

He also noted that the association’s golden jubilee will be in 2031 and suggested a five-year plan to prepare for it, citing the success of the silver jubilee in 2006.

Emphasizing ACYA SFS’s theme, “For The Greater Glory of God,” Daniel sought the association’s continued support for the parish’s Angami Catholic Union (ACU), mothers’ and fathers’ associations, among others.

Vizomenuo Merlyn, convenor of the nomination committee for ACYA SFS’s new team, highlighted a poignant observation: despite the growing education and self-awareness among youngsters, there’s a concerning trend of deviating from respecting and listening to elders and leaders.

She reminded their youth to show honour and respect to all, emphasizing that modern education and tech-savviness shouldn’t come at the cost of values.

Citing the biblical example, “You reap what you sow,” Merlyn further urged the parish youth to be responsible, uplift their association while reaching out to disconnected members.

Outgoing ACYA SFS team president Aviu Augustine, vice-president Mego Simon, general secretary Kekhriengunuo Catherine, joint secretary Sweety Khruomo, treasurer Kediseno Victoria and finance secretary Petevi Michael welcomed the new team consisting of president Zhavilie Raymond, vice-president Rokolazotuo Emmanuel, general secretary Kevisanuo Carmila, joint secretary Dziesekhouü Jacinta, treasurer Dziesevinuo Maria, and finance secretary Neikhotuo Clement.

Earlier, Rev. Fr. Mathew Mhabemo, parish priest of SFS unveiled the ACYA SFS flag and invoked God’s blessings, with song presentations by youth members, while Petekhriezo Francis, Catechist, pronounced the benediction later.
