Adaptability in a changing world: Thenyizumi Students’ Union 70th General Session held

The Thenyizumi Students Union (TSU) on Wednesday conducted its 70th General Session held at Multi Purpose Hall, Thenyizumi village under Phek district with Dorothy Swuro, Associate Professor, Head of Department (HoD), Department of Education, Kohima College Kohima (KCK) the as guest speaker. The session was held under the theme “Adaptability in a changing world”.

In her address, Swuro asked the students to make use of their their potential to contribute towards the change of a society. Observing that people are getting too casual with life, Swuro reflected on the slowly eroding culture and advised the students to think twice and reflect in order to be careful.

Pointing out the nature of changes that can be of different dimensions, Swuro stated, “Irrespective of its nature, change can impact life. The world is ever changing, which at times things may not be as what we expect. As a responsible individual one need to be determined and have positive approach.” Commenting that the Naga society is embracing modernisation and westernization, she also added that in a fast changing world, things become complex and in this regard, warned that if not careful one may go out of track pointing out Nagas have become flexible and adjustable.

Swuro also stressed on the need to preserve and practice the good culture and tradition that has been passed down from the ancestors.

During the programme, Medothi Rhakho, VCC Thenyizu and Avezo Kevin Kapu, President, Chakhesang Students Union delivered greetings, while the Toppers Talk were delivered by Metsilu Swiho HSLC top 7 (subject topper in Social Science) and Vetolu Yomi HSLC Top 18.

During the occasion, Lt Punuhu Dawhuo Memorial Award was also conferred to eight students for their academic excellence in HSLC examinations.

Earlier, the Presidential address was delivered by John Swiho, President TSU, while a general secretary report was presented by Pukrokho Kezo and the Education and Statistical Report was presented by Akhruvo Dawhuo. Rupfusato Theyo presented a special song and a folk song was presented by Thenyizumi Women Society. The programme was led by Aveto Resu, invocation prayer by Rev. Veshoseyi Rhakho, Pastor CRC and later benediction prayer was offered by Pusekhoyi Dawhuo, Youth Pastor TBC.

A career guidance and counseling session was also held with Chothazo Nienu, Assistant Professor, Department of Economic, Pfütsero Government College and Vede Dawhuo, Motor Vehicle Inspector, Department of Transport as resource persons. During the evening session, Vepalu Dawhuo,  Counseling Psychologist Woodstock, International School, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand was the session speaker and TSU also honoured the meritorious students in their academics from class nursery till University examinations.
