Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, today called upon the people of the state to strengthen measures and efforts for biodiversity conservation. This, he said, would help build a resilient climate that enables and boosts the growth and well-being of the people.
The Advisor made these remark while addressing the launch of a tree plantation drive carried out by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) along with its frontal organizations on the occasion of World Environment Day. The event took place at Sanzho Bridge, Sedzü River, Thenyizu village under Phek district.
The Advisor acknowledged that human activities have disrupted the environment, yet he commended the community for their efforts to restore nature through tree plantation, and called for more concerted action in this regard.
Pointing out that World Environment Day (WED), which started in 1973, has come a long way, Khamo emphasized the need for ecological balance in line with this year’s WED theme. He highlighted the efforts of the state government, expressing concern for the environment and nature, and their ongoing work towards protection and conservation.
He stressed the Importance of protecting and conserving nature, which he referred to as God’s gifts to mankind. He added that these actions would not only help people progress and develop but also protect them from diseases, sickness, and natural calamities.
Khamo observed that there are still significant areas of protected forests within the jurisdiction of the Chakhesang tribe. He asserted the need to strengthen measures for the conservation of biodiversity rather than exploiting it and urged the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), area/range public organizations, and village leaderships to pay attention to this issue.
Furthermore, he called for efforts to strengthen the resolutions adopted by the Chakhesang Public Organisation for nature’s conservation and the imposition of a ban on the import of pigs/pork into its jurisdiction.
