National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP), Dimapur unit held an advocacy meeting on Vector Borne diseases for community leaders under Medziphema Block at Multi-Purpose hall, Medziphema Town.
Peter Sangtam, Consultant, DVBD Dimapur presented basic information on Malaria, Dengue and Japanese Encephalitis (JE). He highlighted the causes, symptoms, danger signs, and preventive measures of these vector borne diseases. He focused on source reduction such as conducting cleanliness drive, observing dry day in wards or villages, removing any objects that might collect water around residences, etc. He also highlighted the importance of using LLIN or mosquito nets at night, using mosquito repellents during the day, wearing protective clothing to avoid mosquito bites.

Dr Kavito Zhimomi, District Programme Officer, stressed the importance of accurate diagnosis through ELISA testing for Dengue and JE. He spoke about the vital role of community participation in preventing and controlling vector-borne diseases. He urged community leaders to take ownership of local prevention efforts by initiating regular awareness campaigns, encouraging early health-seeking behaviour, and ensuring participation in source reduction activities.
He further emphasized that the success of vector control efforts heavily depends on proactive community involvement and the timely coordination with health workers and local authorities.
The programme was chaired by Dr Temjensunep Jamir, MO i/c CHC Medziphema and attended by community leaders from various wards and villages under Medziphema block and Malaria Technical Supervisor (MTS) and Surveillance Worker (SW) of Medziphema Block.
