African Swine Fever outbreak at Tseminyu’s Kithagha village; DC issues restrictions

Deputy Commissioner Tseminyu Rohit Singh, IAS has said that the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has reported that there have been cases of mortality of pigs due to outbreak of African Swine Fever in Kithagha village, Tseminyu District.

Therefore, in order to contain the spread of the disease, the DC has enforced the following restrictions under section 6(1) of the production and control of infection and contagious diseases in Animals Act, 2009.

The following advisory measures for the containment of the disease are to be enforced.

  1. Restriction of movement of Pigs/Pork in the infected zone (1.km radius of the village)
  2. Prohibition of slaughter/Sale of Pigs/Pork in the infected zone.
  3. Closely monitoring the surveillance zone (9 km outside the infected zone).
  4. Proper disposal of dead animals by deep burial or incineration within the infected zone.

Earlier on 16th October 2024, the Deputy Commissioner of neighbour district, Wokha, put out an Advisory for the containment of the disease in view of the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the Doyang Right Bank Farm area under Wokha district
