Against 48 years of indefinite reservation policy: Student orgs, apex bodies of five tribes to hold public rally on May 29

The apex organisations and student bodies of the five tribes- Angami, Ao, Lotha, Rengma and Sümi-will be holding public rallies in their respective district headquarters to express resentment against the Nagaland government’s 48 years of indefinite reservation policy.

In a press release, the Ao Senden has requested all the Ao citizens to attend the Protest Rally on May 29 starting from the Main Police Point Mokokchung at 10:00 AM, to be culminated at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner after submission of a representation to the Govt. of Nagaland through Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung.

The Sümi Students’ Union (SKK) has called for mass participation for the rally to be held in Zunheboto district at the Zunheboto Public Ground where it has called every students from various schools in Zunheboto headquarter and all the Constituent Units and Sub-Units of SKK to participate in the agitation. It urged students from Class 10 and above to gather at the public rally to begin at 10 am.

It has also appealed to all the students, members from all the other four tribes residing in Zunheboto and all the right thinking citizens to join the democratic agitation and demand a just and equitable solution to the longstanding issue.

“The collective action is a call to stand against the prolonged neglect and injustice faced by our communities. We demand fair and equal representation in employment opportunities and urge the Government to listen to our concerns,” stated the SSK in a press release.

The Angami Students’ Union has also called for mass participation of all students under its jurisdiction in the public rally organised by the Angami Public Organisation (APO) to be held at the heart of the capital, at Old MLA Junction, Kohima, 10:00am.

The protest will include the formal submission of memorandum and ultimatum to the Government through the Deputy Commissioner Kohima demanding immediate attention and action.

“This fight is not against any particular community or people, but an assertion of equality, meritocracy and fair opportunities for all sections of the society,” stated the ASU.

The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has called upon all its affiliated Ranges, Circle and Units to mobilize a minimum of 10 members each and Students of Class 11 and 12 from all the Institutions within Wokha Town to compulsorily participate in May 29 agitation at 10:00 AM at Police Point, Wokha Town.

“This is a call to stand in solidarity and voice our collective resentment against the prolonged neglect and injustice. It is a demand for equal representation and a fair, inclusive society for the future of our people,” asserted the LSU.

A public rally in Chümoukedima district jointly organised by the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) and Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) will also be held at the DC complex, Chümoukedima.

Following the public rally, a Memorandum reminder will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts.
