All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary in charge of Nagaland, Christopher Tilak, visited Peren and Dimapur districts, on 18th February 2025 as part of his statewide inter district tour program. Tilak was accompanied by S Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament and NPCC President, Khriedi Theünuo, NPCC Working President and a host of Party leaders, NPCC’d Communications Department informed in a press release.
Programs were held at Crave Inn Hotel, Jalukie Town, Peren district and at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, where Christopher Tilak stated that his visit was aimed at strengthening the party and understanding Nagaland’s political situation. While Congress currently has no MLA in the state, he noted that electing a Member of Parliament was a major achievement. He added that the ruling government has a Chief Minister, but the opposition has a Member of Lok Sabha, highlighting Congress’ growing presence in the state despite the many challenges that it continues to face.
Speaking about the 2028 elections, Tilak emphasized the need for a clear strategy and active involvement of youth, women, and other stakeholders to build a strong electoral campaign. He warned that BJP’s policies pose a threat to democracy and tribal rights. He also raised concerns about political instability in the Northeast and increasing unemployment, which is forcing many youth to migrate for jobs.
Addressing the events, MP S. Supongmeren Jamir remarked that the Congress Party should aim to form the government in Nagaland in 2028. He urged DCC Peren and its two subordinate ACCCs to start working at the grassroots level to secure an MLA from their region. He further emphasized the need for party reorganization if necessary, focusing on the larger interest of the party. Jamir concluded by saying that a well-planned strategy would determine Congress’ success in the upcoming elections.
Khriedi Theünuo, Working President of NPCC, highlighted the importance of unity, stating that unity is strength. He reaffirmed the Congress Party’s commitment to secularism and its founding inclusive principles. He acknowledged the overwhelming bipartisan support of the electorate of Nagaland in the last General Elections and emphasized that Nagas have come together as a united force. Theünuo also stated that the Lok Sabha election results reflect the people’s ardent desire for change and that Congress remains strong due to its dedication to the Constitution and the democratic ideals enshrined in it.
Also, during the event in Dimapur, Taliyanger, Retd. Additional Director of Rural Development Department, Government of Nagaland, formally joined the Congress party.
The events were chaired by Namrachang Hegui, President, DCC Peren, and Kumjimong, General Secretary, DCC Dimapur, in Jalukie and Dimapur respectively.
