In a proactive move to address mounting concerns of non-functional government offices and absentee officials, the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (Ao Students Conference) has undertaken surprise checks on various government departments in Mokokchung. AKM’s initiative, aimed at ensuring effective governance and public service, has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions across Mokokchung.

In an exclusive interview with Nagaland Tribune, AKM officials shed light on the motives behind their actions. “We have been inundated with complaints about the lack of functionality in several offices and officials not reporting for duty,” shared an AKM spokesperson. “As responsible citizens and a pressure group, we deemed it necessary to take matters into our own hands and investigate these claims.”

The AKM emphasized that their intention is not to single out any specific office or individual, but rather to address the grievances raised by concerned citizens. “Our aim is not to target anyone but to ensure that public services are delivered efficiently and without hindrance,” the spokesperson explained.

When questioned about the duration of their surprise checks, the AKM responded, “There is no fixed timeframe. We will act whenever necessary to ensure accountability and proper functioning within government departments.”

AKM’s message to the concerned departments was clear and unequivocal. “We urge all department officials to be present at their designated posts and fulfil their duties and responsibilities diligently,” the spokesperson stated. “Neglecting the needs of citizens will not be tolerated, and there will be repercussions if non-functionality persists.”

The conference also appealed to the citizens of Mokokchung to actively engage in addressing such issues. “We call upon the public not to remain passive in the face of absentee officials or their lackadaisical attitudes,” the spokesperson urged. “We encourage Heads of Departments and officials to be stationed at their assigned posts, serving with dedication and integrity.”

As the AKM’s surprise checks continue to unfold, the initiative has sparked a dialogue about the importance of efficient government services and the role of citizens in holding officials accountable. With their proactive stance, the Ao Students Conference aims to create a more accountable and responsive governance system for the benefit of the entire community.
