The All Nagaland ANM (Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife) under CSS (Centrally Sponsored Schemes) served an ultimatum to the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland for non-payment of salaries for the months of January to May 2023 in Zunheboto and from March to May 2023 for ANMs in different centres in Nagaland.
The union gave seven days to the department with effect from 20 June 2023 to pay the pending salaries and stated that “agitation in a democratic way” will commence if its demand is not met with positively.

In a press release, the co-ordinators of the union claimed that the salaries of the ANMs had been irregular since 2016 and that “this has gravely affected our living conditions with all of us posted in the rural areas across Nagaland.” It stated that the non-payment of their salaries is making it “enormously difficult” to diligently carry out their duties as they are unable to sustain their daily livelihood.
