‘An Analysis of the Factors Influencing Naga Youth to Alcoholism: Christian Response’ book by K. Echongbemo Shitiri launched

A book titled ‘An Analysis of the Factors Influencing Naga Youth to Alcoholism: Christian Response’ authored by K. Echongbemo Shitiri, was officially launched on July 21 at Samyan Baptist Church, Wokha. The event was marked by a dedication and release ceremony led by Rev. N Longshi Kithan, Pastor of Samyan Baptist Church.

The book addresses the pressing issue of youth alcoholism, offering a comprehensive analysis and proposing preventative measures from a Christian perspective. During the launch, K. Echongbemo Shitiri stated that alcoholism is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity today, having claimed countless lives and inflicted considerable harm. “Alcoholism poses a significant threat to individuals, families, churches, and society as a whole, leading to economic strain and disrupting social harmony,” said Shitiri sharing the hope that his book will assist young people involved with alcohol in ceasing their consumption and recognising its detrimental effects.

He further stated, “Our youth represent our future, and it is our responsibility to guide them towards a healthier and more rewarding life. Through this book,  I hope to ignite meaningful conversations and actions that will lead to positive change.”

‘An Analysis of the Factors Influencing Naga Youth to Alcoholism: Christian Response’ explores the escalating problem of youth alcoholism. It examines the multifaceted causes of alcohol abuse among young people, including family dynamics, peer pressure, unemployment, and early exposure to alcohol. The book highlights the severe consequences of these factors on the economic life of the family and social har.this, and advocates for preventative measures from a Christian perspective.

The research utilises a dual methodology comprising empirical approaches—such as questionnaires and interviews with both individuals affected by alcoholism and Christian leaders—alongside resources available in libraryare used. Targeting youths aged 12-40 in urban settings, the book offers valuable insights and recommendations for church ministries and future educational research.

Divided into four chapters, the book covers: Definitions and Biblical Perspectives on Alcohol, Analysis of Contributing Factors to Youth Drug and Alcohol Abuse, The Effects of Alcoholism on Individuals and Communities, and Christian Responses and Preventative Measures.

About the Author

K. Echongbemo Shitiri completed schooling in Mount Sinai School, Wokha, and passed his matriculation in the year 2000. He completed Class 12 from Mountain View Christian College, Kohima and a BA degree at Patkai Christian College Autonomous in the year 2008.

He began his theological journey and joined at Baptist Theological College Pfutsero for his BD degree and graduated in the year October 2008- May 2012.

After his graduation of BD, he joined the Pastoral ministry at Chukitong Baptist Church from  September 2012-February 2022. At present, he is serving in the Pastoral Ministry at Samyan Baptist Church, Vungoju Colony, Wokha, Nagaland.
