With no response forthcoming from the government, the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG), 2015 batch, continued its agitation on Thursday, marking the 8th day of silent protest and the second day of an indefinite hunger strike being undertaken by 13 volunteers at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.

Bendangtemsu Ozukum, Core Committee member informed that the protesting teachers received visits from the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) and the Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO), both of which extended support to their cause.

Expressing gratitude, Ozukum thanked KVYO, NAYO, and the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) for standing in solidarity with the agitating teachers. He noted that ANSTA has been a key stakeholder in their movement since earlier phases of agitation in 2018 and 2022.

“They are still here standing with us we are all very thankful for this support and help,” Ozukum said.

He further revealed that the teachers were verbally informed that a communiqué from the government was likely to be issued, and members were expecting an official response before 5 p.m. However, no such communication was received.

Following the absence of any government response even after 5:10 p.m., the group concluded the day’s silent protest but decided to continue the hunger strike. Ozukum said authorities have permitted the hunger strike only between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

He also disclosed that on the previous night, the 13 volunteers had pitched tents near the NSF Solidarity Park area. However, they were later asked to vacate the location, as authorities maintained that any roadside gathering—whether on private or government land—falls under public space restrictions. The volunteers subsequently vacated the site around 9:30 p.m.

“Even tonight we are faced with the same situation. I don’t know how it’s going to be. We got the news that we won’t be allowed to continue the hunger strike,” Ozukum said.
