The Collegiate Meet of All Nagaland College Students Union kick started today in the auditorium of the host college, Sakus Mission College, Dimapur, Nagaland, under the theme ‘Metamorphosis’.
The special guest for the inaugural function was Robert Romawia Royte, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Services, Tourism, Information and Communication Technology, Government of Mizoram.
The Collegiate Meet began on Monday with the arrival of participants and an introduction session. The various competitive events are set to run from 18 to 21 October. The Meet will see a splendid blend of six events covering football (men), volleyball (women), badminton (mix doubles), chess, beat contest and Miss ANCSU competition.
Altogether, 1,992 delegates from 31 affiliated colleges are participating in the meet.
Dignitaries for the Meet include Temjen Imna Along, Minister, Higher Education and Tribal Affairs; Y Vikheho Awomi, former Chairman, Dimapur Municipal Council; Robert Romawia Royte, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Services, Tourism, ICT, Government of Mizoram; T John Longkumer IPS, DGP, Government of Nagaland; and Shri Kyupise Sangtam, President, Nagaland Solar Contractors Union.
Earlier today, Tsukjem Lkr, Co-convenor, Central Organising Committee chaired the inaugural function while the invocation prayer was pronounced by Rev A Khyolamo Jami, Senior Associate Pastor, Lotha Baptist Church, Purana Bazaar.
The keynote address was delivered by Kesosul Christopher Ltu, Convenor, Central Organising Committee followed by the presidential address given by Toito D Chishi, President, ANCSU. Kegwayhun Tep, President, Naga Students Federation conveyed greetings to the gathering in general on the event of the bienniel meet.
Royte spoke on his close association with Nagaland and expressed his pleasure at seeing such college-based sporting events being introduced to students in Nagaland. He mentioned the National Education Policy, 2020 with which sports have become regular education, and that the government at large should be prepared to face the new challenges of the policy.
Royte further exhorted the students that obedience to one’s parents is the source and beginning of success in life. Participants were wished success and encouraged to exhibit true sportsmanship in the events to follow.
The participants of the inaugural function were presented tokens by the special guest.
The meet kicked off with Administration of Oath by Achiru Pfithu, Games and Sports Secretary, ANCSU.
The five-day Meet will conclude with a Valedictory Function on 20 October at 5pm followed by departure of the participants the following day.
