The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has written the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University expressing concerns over the results of 2nd and 4th semesters Undergraduate under the University which were declared on 13th July 2024.

In its letter, the student body pointed out the “unusually high” dropout rate mentioned that thorough and extensive discussions with the students and college authorities, it has observed that “institutions in Nagaland are still transitioning to implement NEP 2020” and the situation is putting “the academic future of thousands of students at risk.”

While acknowledging the overall aim of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, ANCSU has said that it “cannot support any system that jeopardizes students’ career”.

Mentioning that the 2nd semester is the first batch evaluated under Four Year Under Graduate Programme (FYUGP), and the 4th semester Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is the final batch under the new system, ANCSU has said that the drastic pass rate in the recently declared results has caused “anxiety and unrest among students, and discouraging them from pursuing higher studies.”

The student body questioned NU’s implementation of NEP 2020, while highlighting issues such as missing student names, incorrect subject honors in the result sheets, and unentered marks for VAC 15 and VAC 2 in the BA 2nd semester final result. Additionally, the 1st semester mark sheets and NU roll numbers are yet to be dispatched to students, it added.

ANCSU has suggested that under the Four Year Under Graduate Programme (FYUGP), the mark moderation procedure be reviewed to make the policy more student-friendly and reduce the number of failures in this new system.
It has also appealed to NU to have the 1st semester answer sheets examined by the respective colleges to provide a better chance for students who have just passed higher secondary and are inexperienced with the new system’s demands.

Further, it appealed for the University to provide a one-time relaxation for advancement to the next semester for students who have failed in up to 3 papers.
It also recommended that NU provide acknowledgment slips to all colleges upon receiving documents, whether submitted online or offline.
