The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) Mokokchung unit has installed 14 CCTV cameras at seven key locations in Mokokchung town in a move aimed at enhancing public safety and assisting law enforcement. The initiative was officially launched on August 25 at the ANTA office.
According to ANTA president Tongpang Pongen, the cameras will be strategically installed at IOC Mariani Junction, Popular Bakery near the residence of Dr. S.C. Jamir, Eastern Cinema Hall, another point opposite to Elite Hostel, near the Police Point below Mokokchung Town Baptist Church, Amguri road near FAC bus stand and near Aier Bakery. Each of the seven locations will be covered from both directions, making up a total of 14 cameras.
Explaining the purpose of the project, Pongen said that the association had been taking up various public service activities since its inception in 2022. He emphasized that this year’s initiative was guided by ANTA’s motto “Service to the Public” and aimed at benefiting the citizens of Mokokchung.
“Many unfortunate incidents like accidents, reckless driving, or hit-and-run cases often happen late at night, making it difficult for the police to trace culprits due to the absence of proper surveillance. With these CCTV cameras, it will be easier to address such cases quickly,” Pongen said.

He also pointed out that while several shops in town have their own surveillance systems, those cameras serve only individual business interests and not the wider public. He regretted that even at the main police point in Mokokchung town, two installed CCTV cameras were non-functional.
“This installation is meant to fill that gap and directly benefit the citizens,” he added.
Traffic Officer-in-Charge Athang Longkumer, who attended the launch, lauded the initiative and acknowledged ANTA’s consistent support to the traffic police over the past four years.
“This is our first step for the good. Such initiatives not only benefit the police but also every citizen. I hope other NGOs will be inspired to take up similar efforts for Mokokchung,” he remarked.
ANTA advisor Imli highlighted that the project was not funded by external sources but through contributions from every individual driver under the association. “This is not for recognition. Every driver has contributed from their own pockets to do something good for Mokokchung,” he stated.
He further clarified that the installed CCTV cameras would be handed over to the traffic police, urging them to use the system effectively and without bias. “Only the needy victims of incidents will approach the police, and the real purpose of this initiative will be fulfilled when justice is done to them,” he said.
Pongen also recalled ANTA’s past initiatives, including building co-relationships across Nagaland districts in 2022–2023 and spreading cleanliness awareness in 2024 by pasting “Keep Mokokchung Clean” stickers on all taxis under the unit. He stressed that while ANTA is not directly responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the town, as a responsible body it continues to contribute wherever possible.
He thanked all members, office bearers, and traffic police for their support and expressed hope that this step would significantly benefit Mokokchung town.
