Rev. Prof. Rongsen, Chairman of Ao Riju (Ao Academy), officially launched “Süngdongzüng Nung,” an autobiographical novel written in Ao language by Jonglemdong Longkumer, retired Joint Director, Department of Education on November 10. K Meren Longkumer, Pastor, Kumlong pronounced the dedicatory prayer.
In his address, the author explained that the book, though written in the form of an autobiographical novel, is not his personal story. He shared that the work went through several revisions to ensure linguistic accuracy in alignment with the spelling and usage approved by Ao Riju. Expressing gratitude to Ao Riju for its support and guidance, he said that the organization played a key role in refining and finalizing the language used in the book.
He further stated that the novel contains 13 chapters, with many characters, personalities, and incidents woven together. “To write a story, the relationship between the beginning and the end is very important,” he said, emphasizing the effort he made to maintain continuity and flow throughout the narrative. He added that his hope was for the book to touch the hearts of Ao readers and inspire more people to write in the Ao language. “If this book can contribute even a little to the progress of Ao literature, it is a blessing for me,” he said.
Reflecting on the present state of Ao literature, Jonglemdong observed that most published works are theological, while secular writings remain limited. He expressed his desire for more diverse literary contributions in Ao language and hoped that his work would encourage others to explore and expand secular writing.

He also recalled having earlier written a collection of poems titled “Pentongteper Sangro,” which was never officially released but with the knowledge of Ao Senden Literature Board (ASLB). He said “it was a privilege and blessing that one of the poems from this collection was later recognized by Ao Riju and included in the B.A. Ao Literature syllabus.” He acknowledged Ao Riju for this recognition and encouragement.
Officially launching the book, Rev. Prof. Rongsen highlighted the significance of producing more books in Ao language. He lauded the author for his timely contribution, adding that quality is more important than the thickness of a book. “Many think that only thick books are good, but what truly matters is the quality of the content,” he said.
Appreciating Jonglemdong’s effort, Rev. Prof. Rongsen expressed hope that “Süngdongzüng Nung” would inspire new writers and bless readers, marking the beginning of more contributions to Ao literature in the days to come.
Speaking on behalf of Ao Riju, I. Temjen Tzudir, Publication Head & Coordinator Ao Riju, who chaired the program, appreciated the author’s contribution. He said that while many attempt to write novels, few take the craft seriously, and acknowledged “Süngdongzüng Nung” as a commendable work. He added that if found suitable in the future, the novel may also be considered for academic use.
