The Ao Lanur Telongjem (ALT) has strongly demanded the State government to establish a fire station at Mangkolemba Sub-division at the earliest.

While extending heartfelt sympathies to the fire victims at Mangkolemba where a devastating fire destroyed five private residences, two shops, and adjoining godowns in the town on December 8, the ALT asserted that the fire incident revealed the utter neglect of the sub-division by the Government over so many years that even basic public utility like the fire station is not in place.

“Mangkolemba is not only one of the oldest and important sub-division in Mokokchung district but is also the Headquarter of three ranges. The recent fire incident should not have had such devastation had there been a fire brigade. Therefore, the ALT strongly demands the establishing of a fire station immediately,” stated the ALT.

With the onset of the dry season has arrived, the Organisation cautioned that such fire incidents are likely to occur time and again damaging properties and loss of lives in future.

“It is imperative for Mangkolemba Sub-division to have a fire-brigade apart from other amenities and ALT hopes and expects the Government to positively respond to our genuine demand and initiate the works on priority basis. At the same time, the ALT also urges upon the concern authority to provide compensation to the fire victims so that their loss and misery can be alleviated to some extent,” appealed the ALT.
