Ao Senden conducts on-spot inpection of Mariani-Mokokchung National Highway

The Ao Senden along with representatives from the Ao Lanur Telongjem, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem undertook an on spot inspection of the vital road condition linking Mokokchung- Mariani (Assam) on Monday, February 24, 2025.

According to a press release issued by the Media Cell, Ao Lanur Telongjem (Mokokchung Town), the Ao Senden team were also accompanied by representatives from the state government notably the EAC of Ongpangkong Block and Dobashis, the Mangkolemba Sub-division SDO, Executive Enginner of National Highways, Mokokchung Division, Er. Limatoshi and the contractor from the contracting firm, Ghunavi Aye ‘m/s Affluent Enterprises & Services.

The Mariani- Mokokchung road, officially called the National Highway 702 D, is one of vital lifeline for the people of Mokokchung district. Over the years, this vital economic road line for Mokokchung and her neighbouring districts remained in a pathetic condition hampering the wellbeing of the commuters, especially the tuckers ferrying essential commodities.

During the inspection tour, the Ao Senden team stopped at Changki village where the Changki Village Council received the entourage and shared their views about the National Highway 702 D condition. The Council expressed their concern about the ‘drainage’ system and requested for proper construction of the drain system to ensure all-weather road condition.

On their part, the PWD (National Highway) Mokokchung Division assured that the word project will be completed by March 14 and solicited the support of all.

Ao Senden Vice President, SlTinukaba, speaking to the contractor, government officials and others, said that all works, whether it be black-topping the drains, should be completed in a time bound manner. He emphasized on the impending monsoon season which would greatly hamper the developmental works. He also expressed dissatisfaction at the poor drainage system and asked the concern contractor to ensure the same for the Highway to be motorable for seasons.

On the same note, the contractor assured the completion of the road construction. He highlighted on the completion of the Phase 1 and 2 of the Project, and said the third phase which is ‘soiling’ will start shortly once information from Guwahati (official communications) is completed.

Representatives from the Truckers Union, who were part of the entourage, expressed their concern about the drainage system and specifically requested the road builder and the government to look into the issue since the truckers often face hardship during the monsoon seasons.

Reacting on all those requests, the contractor, Ghunavi Aye provided a positive response that all the remaining to-do sites will be done without delay extending its contract even through its valid project is only till March 14, 2025, added the press release.
