The Ao Senden has denied claims that it had “accepted” the 33% Reservation for Women in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) during the consultative meeting convened by the Nagaland Government on 1 September 2023.
This was made clarified by the apex body of the Ao Naga tribe during a meeting with the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town, and the Land Owner Board Mokokchung Town (Ungma, Mokokchung and Khensa Village Councils) on 6 September 2023, at the Ao Senden Office. Following the meeting, a set of resolutions was announced that reflect their collective stance on pressing issues.
1. Support for Supreme Court Hearing on Nagaland Municipal Act:
The attendees at the meeting unanimously resolved to extend their support to the stance taken regarding the Supreme Court hearing concerning the Nagaland Municipal Act.

2. Naga People’s Consultation on New Nagaland Municipal Act:
The second resolution emphasizes the need for thorough consultation with the Naga people before the proposed new Nagaland Municipal Act, currently being framed by a government-appointed panel, is introduced in the Assembly. Importantly, the resolution asserts that Article 371A, a crucial constitutional provision for Nagaland, must not be compromised during the framing of this new Act.
3. Denial of “Accepted” Status on 33% Reservation for Women:
A third resolution addresses a purported report suggesting that the Ao Senden had “accepted” the 33% Reservation for Women in the ULBs. The Ao Senden, through this resolution, refutes this claim as unfounded and expresses regret over the misinformation.
