The Offices of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM), Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem (SST) and Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) have vehemently condemned the brutal attack on Moalong Jamir, a second-semester student pursuing B.A (MC) at Tetso College, Dimapur, by the Anti Vehicle Theft Squad (AVTS) team of Nagaland Police at New Showuba Village in Niuland district on 29 January 2024.
In its press release, Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) stated that the incident has highlighted the excessive and unjust use of force by law enforcement authorities, shaking the trust of the public in their ability to uphold the law impartially. Informing that as a result of the assault, Jamir sustained severe injuries, including damage to his left eardrum, a fractured spinal cord, and a swollen kidney, AKM extended solidarity with the victim and his family and called for prompt and decisive action from the relevant authorities.
Demanding the immediate suspension of those responsible for the assault, pending a thorough and impartial investigation, AKM emphasized the importance of restoring faith in the integrity of law enforcement institutions and ensuring accountability for such acts of brutality.
Further, AKM urged citizens and organizations committed to human rights to join them in condemning the assault and advocating for the rights and dignity of every individual. It called for unity in seeking justice and pledged continued monitoring of the situation to ensure accountability and recompense for Jamir and his family.

The Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem (Soyim Students Union), in its press release, expressed deep concern and outrage over the assault of its bonafide member Moalong Jamir and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Such acts of aggression and abuse of power are unacceptable, SST protested and emphasized that law enforcement agencies are entrusted with the responsibility to protect and serve the public, not to inflict harm or violate the rights of individuals. The union demanded accountability from the officers involved and underscored the importance of upholding justice and ensuring that those responsible for such heinous acts are brought to justice.
Furthermore, the SST urged authorities to take immediate and decisive action to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The Union extended its full support and solidarity to Jamir and reaffirmed its commitment to seeking justice on his behalf. The union vowed to stand firm against any form of violence or abuse of power, emphasizing that such actions have no place in a just and equitable society.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur described the actions of the AVTS team as irresponsible and unlawful. Moalong Jamir, a bonafide member of the student union, suffered grievous physical injuries and mental trauma, necessitating serious medical attention.
According to the union, the assault on Jamir was unjustified as he had committed no wrongdoing and criticized the AVTS team for handling the situation in an unprofessional and irresponsible manner, particularly considering their training and expertise.
In a letter of condemnation, ASUD called upon the higher authorities to investigate the matter seriously and take necessary actions against the responsible personnel of the AVTS team. They emphasized the importance of delivering justice to the victim and ensuring that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
Imnatemsu Pongen, President of ASUD, and Hangi Jamir, General Secretary of ASUD, jointly issued the condemnation notice, urging the Nagaland Police to take proactive measures to prevent similar incidents that cause serious harm and mental trauma to innocent citizens.
