Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has put down a complaint against the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) who it claims to be regularly absent from official duty. In a complaint letter to the Transport Commissioner, Kohima, AKM stated that the officer’s absence was causing “significant inconvenience to the public who rely on RTO’s presence for essential services such as license applications, vehicle registrations and other transport related matters.”

The student body stated that the officer’s absenteeism has forced the people to make repeated visits, leading to unnecessary delays and hardships particularly for those who travel from rural towns and villages. The lack of proper accountability and responsiveness is affecting the efficiency of the department and causing distress to the general public, it added.

AKM President Lanutoshi Aier and General Secretary Satemmongba mentioned that the matter had been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung (2024), but the concerned officer is yet to show any signs of sincerity. It therefore urged the Transport Commissioner to intervene and take the necessary measures to ensure the RTO’s regular presence at his designated posting.

AKM also appealed the Transport Department to implement a monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability and the smooth functioning of the office.
