Demanding better healthcare services in Kiphire, the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) began its first phase agitation by shutting down the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Medical Superintendent (MS) offices beginning from February 12.
In a press release issued on February 12, the United Sangtam Students’ Conference held an emergency tripartite meeting with its
Executive, Area officials, and Sangam intellectuals on the February 8 at USSC Head Office, Kiphire, conceming the non-fulfillment to its demand submitted to the Mission Director, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Kohima Nagaland.
In this regard, after thorough deliberation the meeting unanimously resolved to impose indefinite closure of both Medical Superintendent (MS) office and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) offices Kiphire with effect from February 12, until the following requirements is addressed us a matter of urgency.
The demands/ requirements of the USSC include:
- Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kiphire has been transferred on promotion to the directorate of H&FW Nagaland Kohima and the CMO office Kiphire has been functioning without a CMO since November 2023 to date/ which interferes with the efficient operation.
- As per the notification, the Staff Nurse from Pungro CHC under CMO Kiphire has transferred to NHAK without a replacement.
- Another employee was transferred from Longya SC Under CMO Kiphire to Lingrijan SC under CMO Dimapur without a reliever.
- Further the Dental Hygienist who has been redeployed to DHs Kiphire from DH Zunheboto but is yet to report to her place of posting till date.

“This situation has created a significant shortage of medical staff in the district, which puts the patient’s lives at risk and causes them to endure untold hardship, and the general people are forced to seek medical care outside the district,” stated the USSC.
To protect the well-being of its denizens, the USSC urged the concerned authority to expedite the genuine demands and deploy the required staff at the earliest possible time.
Failing to meet the demands, the department shall be solely held responsible and accountable for any citizen’s deaths resulting from substandard medical service, stated the USSC.
