The Angami Public Organisation (APO) president Razouvotuo Chatsu on Thursday informed that the state-wide bandh called under the banner of Naga People’s Action Committee (NPAC) will not be enforced under APO jurisdiction.
Chatsu said the view of the APO was that the NPAC is not mandated or authorised by the apex tribe organizations and as such, they had no authority to give directives to the apex tribe bodies.
While maintaining that all Nagas were for early solution to the vexed Naga political issue, he reminded that the 14 apex tribal Hohos had already issued a statement in this regard. Therefore, if the tribe bodies do not heed to their directives, it should not be taken otherwise, the APO president stated.
The NPAC directives to hold the proposed bandh on 14 January will not be enforced in APO jurisdiction, Chatsu said.
Following the decision by the APO not to observe the 14 January bandh under its jurisdiction, the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has issued a directive to its ranges and constituent units/villages.
The directive states that sufficient volunteers are to be deployed in all strategic areas and “untoward and violent incidents” are to be prevented. Furthermore, all business establishments and activities are to be allowed to operate as usual and any individual or group “who threaten to disturb the peaceful atmosphere’ are to be apprehended.
The AYO also called its volunteers to remain “strictly vigilant” from 6am to 12 noon on Saturday, the day of the proposed bandh.
