Kovi Meyase, Director, Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland, on Saturday, informed that the state government has so far trained around 14,000 youths and out of these, more than 7000 youths have been given placements.
He was speaking as the special guest at the one day media workshop “Vartalap” on the theme “Skill India Mission & Digital India Mission” organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Kohima, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India at Hotel Japfü, Kohima.
According to a statement from PIB, Meyase informed that Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was started by the Central government for the purpose of skilling the unskilled and also further upgrading the skilled workers so that their earning potentials were increased.
He expressed gratitude to the Union Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship for selecting a multi-skill programme from the state for showcasing during the recent state Chief Secretaries’ conference in Delhi.
Stating that the theme of the workshop is very relevant as there has been a lot convergence between skilling and digitalization, Meyase recalled that Digital India Mission was started in 2015 to improve digital literacy, digital infrastructure and to reduce the distance between the government and the citizens.
Earlier, in his speech as the guest of honour, I Simon Teilia, Joint Director, Department of Information & Public Relations, Government of Nagaland said, the media should do their reporting to make a difference. He said they should try to create consciousness about such programmes to the citizens and bring home the point to them.
K Sonikumar Singh, Assistant Director, PIB Kohima, in his keynote address said the workshop was organized with the objectives of creating a platform for interaction among the media and stakeholders involved in formulation and implementation of Central government schemes and projects. He said such a platform gives opportunity to the media to enquire and learn more about the different schemes and also to the implementing departments to clear doubts and also highlight their achievements.

P Sophie, HoO Central Bureau of Communication, Kohima gave the votes of thanks. The workshop was attended by Zubemo Lotha Tsanglao, Deputy Director and Menguzelie Suhu, Senior Instructor from the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Ruokuovizo Chupuo, Sr Programme Officer and Yanger Longkumer, Programme Officer from the Department Information Technology & Communications as the resource persons respectively.
