In view of the drop in temperature as a result of much needed rainfall, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has urged educational institutions in and around Dimapur to resume classes.

“This will ensure that valuable academic time is not lost, should the authorities order a closure in the future”, the student body stated.

Several institutions reportedly extended the summer break after the DNSU requested for its extension in view of the “sizzling temperatures” which is not conducive for learning and could have adverse effects on the health of both teachers and students.

While expressing its sincere appreciation to all the educational institutions and the district administration for giving priority to the students’ health, it has stated that appeal was necessitated because of concern for the welfare of students and requests from parents.

DNSU informed that it has discussed “future courses of action in case the weather becomes unbearable again” with the authorities and that the latter “have demonstrated their concern for the students’ well-being and are committed to ensuring their safety.”

It also appealed institutions to “be well-prepared with essential facilities, including first aid kits, medical necessities, power backup, clean drinking water, and other amenities to guarantee the students’ well-being.”
