A five-day Basic Beekeeping Training Programme for 139 jawans of various units of the Assam Rifles was successfully conducted at the 15 Assam Rifles Headquarters, Kashiram, Dimapur, from March 10 to 14.
The training programme was organized by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission with the objective of equipping jawans with practical knowledge and skills in beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood and income-generating activity.
Resource persons of the program, C Francis Kikon, Athungo N Ngullie and Temjenchuba K Char from the Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission conducted the sessions, providing both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations. The training covered various aspects of beekeeping including introduction to beekeeping, identification of bee species, hive management, colony multiplication, seasonal management, honey harvesting & processing and value addition of bee products.
During the programme, the participants were also sensitised on the role of beekeeping in environmental conservation and pollination, highlighting its importance in enhancing agricultural productivity and biodiversity.

Hands-on demonstrations and interactive discussions formed an important part of the training, enabling the jawans to gain practical experience in handling bee colonies and managing modern beehives.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn beekeeping, noting that the skills gained could serve as a viable supplementary livelihood option, particularly during rural postings or after retirement.
The programme concluded successfully with positive feedback from both the participants and organisers, reflecting the commitment of the Assam Rifles and the Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission to promote sustainable livelihoods and rural economic development in the region.
