The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) has strongly condemned the physical assault of a local resident, Meyi Jamir, by a non-local trader in Murgipatti on June 26. The incident, which occurred while the victim was simply purchasing vegetables, has been described by ASUD as a serious breach of public safety and communal harmony.
Such an act of barbarism against an innocent customer is not only an assault on an individual but also a direct challenge to the peace and order of Dimapur, it stated. The Union asserted that such violence is not just an attack on an individual but a direct affront to the peace and order of Dimapur.
In a stern warning, ASUD issued what it termed an “ultimate ultimatum” to all non-local traders operating in the city.
“We want to make it unequivocally clear that this is an ultimate ultimatum to all non-local traders,” the Union said adding, “Any further incidents of assault, harassment, or exploitation of our local populace will be met with uncompromising and decisive action from the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur”.

“We support a harmonious environment for all, but we will not compromise on the safety and well-being of our people,” stated the Union, making it clear that any future incidents of assault, harassment, or exploitation targeting locals will be met with “uncompromising and decisive action.”
While the ASUD did not specify the exact nature of the “further action”, it emphasized that the response would be aimed to ensuring justice for victims and preventing similar incidents. The Union also urged the authorities to take swift and stringent legal action against the perpetrators and to ensure the safety of all citizens.
The Union stated that local residents and various community organizations have echoed its sentiments, and called for stricter regulations and increased vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
It further stated that the incident has brought to the forefront discussions about the conduct of certain traders and the need for peaceful coexistence in the commercial hub of Dimapur.
