The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) has affirmed its support to the objection raised by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) against the inclusion of Non-Nagas in Dimapur Municipal Council.

In a press release, the ASUD has appealed to the Nagaland Government to uphold the rights of the Naga people and honour the sacrifices made by the predecessors, who laid down their lives to secure article 371(A). The Union has also urged the newly elected members of the DMC to prioritize the rights and identity of the Naga people and further said that it is imperative that the councillors respect the sentiments and work towards maintaining peace and harmony within the State.

“The inclusion of Non-Nagas in the decision making position would not only betray the trust placed in our leaders, but also pose a significant threat to our cultural identity and way of life,” the student body added while also asserting that it will not tolerate any actions that undermine our rights or compromise our identity.”
