The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) has urged upon authorities for strict implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and the immediate deportation of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in and around Dimapur.

In the representation to the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur dated June 9, ASUD underscored concerns of the local community regarding the influx of illegal immigrants and the risks posed to the rights, identity, and resources of indigenous people in the district.

ASUD proposed several key measures to tackle the issue, including the creation or upgradation of a centralized ILP registration and monitoring system; strict deportation of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and ILP defaulters, including those using fake documents; coordination among departments, civil society organisations, student bodies, and youth organisations for effective ILP enforcement; conduct of awareness campaigns through mass media and local administration to educate the public on ILP regulations.

According to ASUD, effective ILP implementation is essential for maintaining demographic balance, protecting local interests, and promoting sustainable development.

The representation was jointly signed by ASUD president Imnatemsu Pongen and general secretary Tongpangnechet Kichu.
