An awareness program on Safe and Dignified Breastfeeding, Gender based and Domestic Violence was held at Cultural hall, Shamator, on November 13, organised by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and Sakhi One Stop Corner (OSC) Shamator, with T Yanhola, Gender Specialist, DHEW, A. Henry, Gender Specialist, DHEW and Yantsula, Office Assistant, OSC as resource persons.
Yanhola expressed that breastfeeding is a God’s gift towards mankind and universally recognised as the best for infants and in order to feed ones child, the mother needs to have not only healthy environment but also a healthy food items and encouraged that mothers should feel proud in feeding their child.
She also spoke on domestic violence stating that violence is not the answer to progress in the present society. She said that starting from the home, these days much domestic violence are not reported to the right authorities, or most of the people are not aware of the rights guaranteed by the government as it protects children and women. She further stated that living in the 21st Century, our goal should be to build better homes where child and woman safety is given priority by giving them best education and respect towards the women for visible changes in our society.

Henry thanked the people for witnessing gender equality in Naga society while comparing to other parts of India. He stated that both man and woman are equally responsible in the offices perhaps in many departments more women are leading the department which shows gender equality.
R. Kampenla gave a welcome address and thanked all the participants for making the program successful.
