Awareness programme on Child Safety and POCSO Act held at Mokokchung

An awareness programme on the safety and security of children and the implementation of the POCSO Act was conducted by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mokokchung, under the Department of Social Welfare, on March 25 at PM Shri Government High School, Mokokchung Village. The resource person for the programme was Imnatola, District Supervisor, Child Helpline, Mokokchung Town.

The programme aimed to educate students and teachers on child protection, personal safety, and legal safeguards under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Emphasizing on creating a safe school environment, she encouraged children to speak up against any form of abuse.

Tianaro Jamir, President of Watsü Mungdang, delivered an exhortation on self-awareness and safety measures in schools. She highlighted the importance of understanding personal boundaries, staying alert, and reporting unsafe situations to trusted adults.

The resource person for the programme, Imnatola, District Supervisor, Child Helpline, spoke in detail about child rights, the provisions of the POCSO Act, and the role of Child Helpline services. She encouraged students to seek help without fear and assured them of confidentiality and support.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Samuel Kapu, District Child Protection Officer, Mokokchung, who appreciated the participants and emphasized continued awareness  efforts to ensure child safety in the district.
