An awareness programme aimed at empowering traders towards ethical business practices and contributing to national development was held at VDB Hall, Wokha Town on September 23. The event was organised by the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LMCP), Wokha, in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organization and the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry under the theme “Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection: The Journey Towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”
Assistant Controller, LMCP Wokha, T Aimong, in his keynote address, stated that Viksit Bharat 2047 is not limited to infrastructure or technological advancement but also emphasises ethical and economic growth. He highlighted that the business community is the backbone of economic development and called upon traders to remain law-abiding, responsible and uphold ethical standards.
Renthungo Mozhui, General Secretary of Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in a brief remark, thanked the department for conducting the programme for the business community and urged traders to comply with government rules and regulations in their operations.

Inspector, LMCP Wokha, Silo Jemu, gave a detailed presentation on the Legal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodities Rules. He spoke on the importance of proper weights and measures, consequences of non-standard practices, and awareness regarding product authenticity. He also drew attention to key consumer rights aspects including net quantity, manufacturing and expiry dates, and penalties for violations.
President of the Chamber, Vungathung C Murry, also addressed the gathering and appreciated the initiative while calling for continued cooperation between the department and the business community.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where traders engaged in discussions, raised queries and shared concerns.
