The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) has condemned the “repeated and inexcusable” actions of Reny Wilfred- whom the organisation labelled as “a man who has shown a disturbing pattern of abusing his position of power to abuse women and children”.

The AWO, in a press release issued today, highlighted the repeated sexual harrassment cases of the IAS officer during his tenure as the Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, and as Joint Secretary IDAN.

“As a figure of authority, he should be safeguarding vulnerable employees with anti-discrimination and anti-harassment measures, but this patterns of repeated degrading and humiliating offenses highlights not only his blatant disregard for the law, but also the grave failure of the system to hold him accountable for his crimes time and again,” it stated.

AWO asserted on the need for women to stand in solidarity with each other and fight against such atrocities to uphold the dignity, safety and rights of women and children.

“We cannot and will not stay silent while such atrocities are allowed to continue. It is appalling and disturbing that despite serious allegations, Reny Wilfred has not been brought to justice, which emboldens perpetrators across our society who continues to harm others without fear of consequences,” expressed the Organisation.

It demanded the Immediate arrest of  Reny Wilfred without delay, and called for a full, impartial investigation conducted into all allegations against him. It also urged the judiciary to fast-track the proceedings, ensuring justice is delivered under relevant laws.

AWO has further called upon civil societies, women organisations, and human rights defenders to come forward in the fight for justice. “Let us fight this good fight together and reassure our womenfolk that standing and seeking justice is respectful and meaningful. The safety of our women and children and the integrity of our justice system must never be compromised,” expressed the organisation.
