Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Nagaland, Finance Department Taliremba today inaugurated the Axis Bank branch at New Secretariat, Kohima, a day after the bank’s 5,000th branch was inaugurated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat yesterday.
Gracing the occasion Taliremba, Commissioner & Secretary, Finance Department said that it is not surprising to see the competition among the banks to open the branches in the Secretariat Complex area which is the centre of power in Nagaland and a place that is commercially progressing by leaps and bounds

Highlighting the landscape of the banks he said, there are 26 banks operating in the state. He pointed that as of 30th June 2023 there were 207 branches operating within the state with 71 State Bank of India branches as the largest leading bank, 21 Nagaland State Cooperative branches and 14 Bank of Baroda branches taking the third place but with the opening of its fourth branch in Kohima today Axis bank has joined the largest branch network in the state occupying the third position.
“Opening of this branch will foster very healthy competition among the banks and surely I also know that it will bring about more efficient and costumer friendly service,” Taliremba added
Emphasising on the importance of the service delivery he said, “banks exist for the people because costumers are there because people are there” adding “you are there because costumers are there”. The Commissioner & Secretary urged the bank to make a difference in the bank sector by delivering service with a smile adding “make people go home with very good memories and make them come back to your branch again”.
“We would expect the Axis Bank to play a very big role in terms of providing credit to the people and taking banking network closer to the people especially in the rural areas,” he added
Further, Taliremba also mentioned that real economic progress does not take place unless loans are made available to the people and exuded hope that the newly established branch will make credit easily available to the people impacting the people positively
Vice President and Cluster Head, Dimapur Cluster, Axis Bank Ltd. Poujulung in his welcome note informed that the bank has 5000 branches and 15751 ATMs pan India with 168 branches and 293 ATMs in North Eastern States, 14 branches in Nagaland with 4 branches operating in Kohima.
