The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) initiated its week-long Taxi Verification Drive on Tuesday at the AYO office premises in Kohima, aiming to regulate public transport and address irregularities in taxi operations across the district.
AYO president Kesosul Christopher Ltu informed that 245 taxis were verified on the first day. He expressed satisfaction over the response, stating that the cooperation from taxi operators and drivers was encouraging. He also mentioned that the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) will join the verification process on Wednesday to assist in the drive.
The initiative is part of AYO’s broader efforts to streamline traffic flow and ensure compliance with transport regulations in Kohima.

During a recent press briefing, AYO had raised concerns over several issues plaguing the city’s taxi system, including traffic congestion, unauthorized permit transfers, and drivers operating without valid licenses. The organisation has been studying the underlying problems for nearly a year and is collaborating with the district administration and transport authorities to implement corrective measures.
On June 24, verification was carried out for New Reserve, Lerie/CRPF Camp, AG, BOC, Japfü Hotel, Jail Colony, Agri, Forest Colony and Paramedical localities. On June 25, the verification drive will be conducted for Chandmari, PWD, Town Area (NST, TCP Gate, Phoolbari, Hospital Colony, Local Ground, and Razhü Point.
It had been informed that only taxis verified and issued official AYO stickers will be permitted to operate in Kohima during and after the drive.
