NPF MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, raising a supplementary question in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Thursday, emphasized the need for honesty and accuracy in the forthcoming census operation.

Referring to Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton’s reply to his supplementary question, Azo said the census operation would commence on January 1, 2026 and would conclude on March 31, 2027. He said, “As a Christian, we should be truthful in whatever we do.”
Reflecting on the past, Azo said, “In the previous census, we have tried to manipulate, have given bogus figures, exaggerated figures. So now that the new census is coming, we should bring out the exact figures by going through biometrics or Aadhaar card.”

He requested the Home Minister including the Leader of the House that a notification should be given, issued, that the latest census for 2026 to 2037 should be done through biometrics and Aadhar card to get the exact population census.

He asked whether the new census would serve as the basis for delimitation in 2028.

Responding to the query, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister-in-charge of Home, Y Patton, clarified that the delimitation exercise will be carried out on the basis of the 2027 census.
