Azo Nienu claims NPF champions the cause of Naga political issue

Kohima: Nienu called upon all the 60 members to walk the talk and bring about a logical conclusion to the Naga Political Issue

Discussion on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address marked the ongoing budget session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Participating in the discussion of motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, senior Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Naga Peoples Front (NPF) legislature party leader Kuzholuzo Nienu stated that NPF champions the cause of Naga Political Issue. He said that he had proof and evidence with facts and figures to substantiate his claims that in the year 1963 on 21 October under the Chairmanship of A. Kevichüsa, Democratic party of Nagaland (DPN) was formed in view of the troubled situations and conflicts between India and Nagas.

Nienu pointed out that in a year’s time the Naga political issue can be wind up if there is political will and allow an interim govt to take on.

He stated it was high time that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and all the 60 Legislators to be sincere and walk the talk.

“It’s high time Government of India need to walk the talk and we as facilitator we should welcome an honourable, acceptable and inclusive,” said Nienu.

He called upon all the 60 members to walk the talk and bring about a logical conclusion to the Naga Political Issue and that this should be initiated from day one and not at the end of the tenure.

Meanwhile, Achumbemo Kikon while participating in the discussion asserted that the main objective of NPF is to bring about an honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution to the Naga political issue.

Kikon, pointed out that there is not a single mention in the Governor’s speech regarding integration of Naga homeland. Stating this, he said NPF believes in shared Naga homeland which is a part of the party manifesto and constitution that integration is the birth right of the Naga people.  He added that Naga people have been divided without their consent and knowledge.

Kikon also emphasised on the dire need to actively pursue an honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution to the Naga Political issue and persist with the Central Government as an early solution was not just beneficial for the interests of the Naga People but also for the centre, as it would pave way for the development of the entire North Eastern Region.

He also expressed his concerns on the upcoming ULB election and said that it would be wise to delay the ULB elections in the State until a clear consensus was reached with all the stakeholders and civil society organisations.

Mhathung Yanthan, the Advisor to Agriculture, stated that the Government is committed to improvement of agriculture to enhance the economy of the State. He said that education boosts economic growth and improves the GDP. Yanthan added that the new Medical College coming up will fulfil the wishes and aspirations of the people.

MLA Dr Sukhato A Sema, participating in the motion of thanks to the governor’s address remarked that the initiatives of Agriculture Department for the innovative model of cluster agriculture development known as Naga Integrated Settled Farming which he said is an unprecedented achievement which needs appreciation and admiration.

He also lauded the government for successfully exporting Naga King chilly (Naga mircha) in 2022 which has put Nagaland state in the world organic map.

He further hoped that the Medical College Kohima will be functional and operational during the academic year 2023-24 and to be followed by a second Medical College at Mon.
