Wokha Deputy Commissioner, Vineet Kumar informed that Banana Festival 2025 is scheduled to be held from October 22 to 24 at Public Ground Wokha.

Addressing media persons, the Deputy Commissioner said that the event is being organised by the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha and various line departments.

The festival, he said, forms part of the Five-Year Vision Document launched earlier in the presence of Union Minister of State, Dr Jitendra Singh.

The Banana Festival would be graced by Deputy Chief Minister, TR Zeliang as the special guest and Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton as the chief host.

Highlighting the objective of the festival, Kumar stated that it is “not just a celebration,” but a platform to empower more than 6,000 farmers, connect buyers and sellers, and provide training on scientific cultivation and value addition techniques. He expressed optimism that Wokha would soon emerge as a hub not only for banana production but also for other agricultural crops.

The DC further informed that the festival is being jointly organised by ICAR–KVK Wokha with support from NABARD, Central Institute of Horticulture, Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, and over 30 institutions from across the state and the country.

Over 100 stalls would be set up during the three-day event to showcase banana by-products, technical innovations, and other exhibits. The festival would also include technical sessions where farmers can interact with experts and dignitaries from different institutes.

Adding a touch of fun, activities such as banana-eating competitions and a “Best Banana Bunch” contest would be organised to highlight the diverse banana varieties of Wokha.

Concluding the briefing, the DC invited the public to attend the festival, support local farmers, and contribute to making the event a grand success aimed at uplifting the farming community.
