Baptist College hosts workshop on Mastering Academic Writing: Publication in UGC-CARE & Impact Factor Journals

Kohima: Sessions include Effective Academic Writing, guidance on creating structured research paper

A One Day Workshop on “Mastering Academic Writing: Publication in UGC-CARE & Impact Factor Journals” was conducted at Baptist College, Kohima, on 30th October 2024.

Dr. Mimi Kevichüsa Ezung, Associate Professor, Dept. of Tenyidie, Nagaland University, was the resource person in the first session. She spoke on “Effective Academic Writing”. Ezung highlighted the importance of thorough research, clear writing, and maintaining ethical standards in academia. She pointed out that the key points in academic writing were formulating research questions, constructing well-organized paragraphs, and ensuring proper citation to avoid plagiarism.

Dr. Ezung emphasized on maintaining an unbiased perspective in research, concluding with a quote from Francis Bacon, urging participants to remain critical of their work. The session concluded with a productive Q&A session, fostering further discussion among attendees.

The resource person in the second session of the academic workshop, Prof. Nigamananda Das, Head of the Department of English, NU, emphasised on the significance of publishing in UGC-CARE journals, highlighting the establishment of the consortium to enhance academic quality following the 2010 reforms in higher education.

He addressed ethical decision-making in research, stressing principles such as honesty, integrity, and respect for intellectual property, while warning against research and publication misconduct. Dr. Das explained the concept of Open Access and the dynamic nature of the UGC-CARE journal list, which may be updated based on quality assessments.

The second session included insights on Impact Factor journals and their calculation, as well as guidance on creating a structured research paper. Prof. Das also discussed various forms of academic writing and the publication requirements for educators.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Kewepfuzu Lohe, Interim Principal, Baptist College.
