The project-site training provided participants with direct exposure to model apiaries, scientific bee box designs, colony management techniques, disease control measures and hygienic honey extraction practices. Emphasis was also placed on the role of bees in improving oilseed crop productivity, thereby linking apiculture with sustainable agricultural systems.

The institutional setting enabled close interaction between farmers, scientists and extension experts, reinforcing confidence among participants to adopt scientific methods and encouraging long-term engagement with organised beekeeping practices. The programme is funded by the National Bee Board (NBB), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, and implemented by SAS, NU under the leadership of Dr. Mary N. Odyuo (PI) and Dr. Avinash Chauhan (Co-PI), who also served as Course Directors.
