The NSCN IM on Friday stated that the investigation was underway on Apam alias Ngathingpam Shimrah, a Deputy Kilonser in the group, who has been arrested by Nagaland Police on charges of illegally transporting ammunition to Manipur.

In a statement, NSCN IM said that it was shocked to learn of the case and asserted that “befitting punishment will be awarded against him” if Shimrah is found guilty.

In the past days, Nagaland Police has apprehended six persons including the Deputy Kilonser of NSCN IM and an Armed Branch Inspector from the police force who was in charge of the Arms and Ammunition Branch of the Police Central Store in Chumoukedima.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had said on Thursday that the law will take its own course on those accused in the crime.

Earlier, Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma, IPS had disclosed that some people from Manipur had paid money to purchase the ammunition but he refused to comment on whether the case was related to the ongoing violence in the neighbour state.
