The Kohima District Administration in collaboration with District Hub For Empowerment Of Women (DHEW), Kohima organised the award presentation program for “Best Performing Government Schools in Kohima District” (Assessment of Pass-out rate of Girl Child) under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at DC’s Conference Hall, Kohima on March 7.
According to DIPR, certificates and cash awards for the best performing schools (Assessment of pass-out rate of Girl Child) in different categories were bagged by GPS Garuzou, GMS Aradhura Lerie Chazou, GHS Chandmari and Rüzhükhrie Government Hr. Secondary School.
At the programme, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mission Shakti has given a place where a girl child could become literate and could come at par with the male counterpart. He said that to develop India and take it forward as a big economy country in the world, citizen’s participation and contribution irrespective of gender is needed. He said that there should not be any differences or gap between boys and girls in the community or society and urged the gathering to break the traditional barriers to create equitable society. Ramnikant also congratulated the faculty, staff and students of the award winning schools for the efforts rendered towards educating the girl child and encouraged them to move forward for greater heights by making Nagaland a prosperous state. The DC also assured all possible help from the district administration.

District Education Officer Kohima, Emilo Patton while giving the welcome address stated that under BBBP initiative, the culture status of girls have improved. “In Kohima District, girls have improved both in enrolment and academic performances, the girls have excelled even in the field of sports and other co-curricular activities,” said Patton who also highlighted that pass enrolment and pass percentage of the girls are better than boys, both in Government and Private Schools in the HSLC exam for the past four years. She further informed that even in the HSSLC exams, girls enrolment and pass percentage in Arts Stream are better than boys both in Government and Private Schools but said that girls needs to work on Science and Commerce stream.
The program was chaired by EAC Kohima and Nodal Officer, Mission Shakti, Moasunep K. Jingru.
