Biography of Rev R J Amen Longchar, the man who transformed ABAM CYE, released

Mokokchung: Rev Longchar is credited to have moulded many youths during his tenure as secretary of ABAM CYE

A biography titled Lanur Longzük, on the life of Rev R J Amen Longchar, was released by Rev Prof Dr Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM), Impur, on Sunday at Kumlong Ward, Mokochung.

The book is authored by renowned writer and biographer Tiala Imchen.

In a short program, the author said Rev Longchar spent most of his life engaged with youths and that his selfless commitment to ABAM Youth Ministry was influential in reforming and impacting many young people.

She added that Aoli CYE reached its pinnacle during his tenure as secretary of ABAM Christian Youth Endeavour (CYE). Under Rev R J Amen Longchar’s leadership, numerous activities were organised for youths such as seminars and training for youth pastors, retreats, collegiate festival and skill workshop for dropouts.

He also organised a campaign against alcoholism and substance abuse in Mokokchung, Imchen said.

Rev Longchar also introduced the Film Ministry, which was later christened Gospel Media Centre, as well as the publication of a magazine called Lanur Teimla through the establishment of Aoli CYE Printing Press. The magazine is regarded as one of the most influential papers and has left a rich legacy for the youths of today.

This book is a life narrative for youngsters and is meant to motivate the youths to fulfil God’s mission selflessly, said the author, Tiala Imchen.

Rev R J Amen Longchar, in his speech, said his 30 years of service with the ABAM and other organisations had been a blessed journey since God was with him and everyone around him was highly supportive in every work of his life.

Reflecting on her affiliation with Rev R J Amen Longchar, Arenla Imchen, Former Associate Youth Secretary ABAM, said the reverend was a selfless and visionary leader who moulded and transformed many youths, including his colleagues. He has left profound memories for all the people who have been a part of his life, she added.

The book Lanur Longzük is available at Clark Literature House, MTBA Basement, Mokokchung, and Tir Yimyim Office, Supermarket Dimapur. It is priced at Rs 350.
