The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has criticized the BJP Nagaland for neglecting pressing issued in the State.

Citing the recent dharna carried out by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)Nagaland unit in response to the Income Tax raid in Jharkhand, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said it “heeds the efforts made by the BJP Nagaland in speaking out against actions that pose a threat to the welfare of every individual”.

The NPCC stated that the allegations made by Benjamin Yepthomi, the BJP Nagaland president, and Vanathi Srinivasan, the BJP National President Mahila Morcha, regarding the questioning of ownership of the money, are premature. “The competent authority has not yet provided sufficient information on the matter. It is the nature and the theatric of the BJP to name the baby before being conceived,” stated the press release issued by S.Supongmeren Jamir, President NPCC

Firmly opposing any individual or group that places their personal interests and way of life above the wellbeing of our society and our nation, the NPCC stated that this commitment has been deeply ingrained within its party since independence against British rule.

“We have observed that the BJP Nagaland tends to neglect the pressing issues that are unique to the state. Our aim is to shed light on these frequently overlooked concerns and emphasize the critical matters that the BJP Nagaland unit has failed to address,” stated the NPCC.

One unprecedented move by the BJP government is the alteration of significant dates that hold great religious significance to the Naga people, in order to establish their own Self Governance Day, highlighted the NPCC. “Moreover, their approach to governance in the state exhibits a preference for authoritarianism over democracy, evident in their audacious actions. Their decision to exclude words like “socialist” and “secular” from the Indian Constitution Day on November 26th, 2023, clearly demonstrates a lack of consideration for Christian sentiments,” pointed out the press release.

The Party further brought attention to the lack of opposition in State with elected members failing to fulfill this crucial role under their opposition less government. It also claimed that the BJP Nagaland unit appeared to overlook the inadequate and irresponsible performance of their own representatives in their respective constituencies.

Recent events, such as the agreement to conduct the counting of votes for the 43 Tapi by-election on a Sunday, pointed out the NPCC, further highlight their insensitivity towards Christian beliefs. “It is almost as if the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has permeated their thinking, influencing their decision-making process. Additionally, the election, which was the main agenda to bring the solution for the Naga political issue, remains indefinitely postponed, casting doubts on the competence of those responsible for resolving this long- standing conflict,” asserted the party.

The NPCC further stated that it takes immense pride in advocating for positive and constructive approaches to governance. “Under the unwavering leadership of our  President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, we persistently prioritize addressing the real issues faced by our people, without any bias or prejudice. It is through our unwavering commitment to these principles, coupled with our unwavering faith, love, and passion, that we will continue to strive for a more dignified and equitable society. We advice the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Nagaland to adopt and embrace such values in their political endeavors and governance if they are to serve the rests and aspirations of the people of Nagaland,” stated the NPCC.
