The BJP of 56 Noklak Assembly Constituency has said on Wednesday that the body of the man who had died during the protest at Noklak DC’s office gate in Noklak Town will not be buried until its demand for re-poll at Polling Station no. 7, Noklak village ‘A’ is fulfilled.

It stated that the deceased was L. Tongpa, Son of Lusop, aged 33 years.

In a letter to Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer, the party stated that the body “will remain unburied as a sign of volition of Election Code of Conduct by the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer until redressal and exemplary action is taken against the polling booth as null and void.”

The BJP of 56 Noklak A/C added that many party workers were also seriously injured by the security personnel during the “undesirable situation”.

In the letter, the party unit has questioned the actions of the Presiding Officer of PS no. 7, Noklak village ‘A’ who it alleged shut the door of the PS and hurried to the DC’s office with the EVM without getting necessary signatures from the party’s Polling Agents, due to which genuine voters could not cast their votes on Monday, 27 February 2023.

The BJP unit has also accused the DEO of not taking the complaint filed by the party to the concerned authority on time. It stated that while the complaint was lodged on 27 February at 10:00 pm, the DC & DEO had forwarded the letter only on 28 February at 10:22 pm.

“The lapse of 24 hrs is a pure case of bias and political inclination,” the letter stated.

The party continued its demand for re-poll in the Polling Station in question and the declaration of votes cast there on Monday as null and void.

It also threatened that party cannot be held responsible any further eventualities.
